Birth With Confidence, Openness and Joy!
Childbirth is both a miracle and a normal, primal life process. With loving and skillful attention during this time, tremendous empowerment and healing can be experienced.
I love being a midwife!
And I trust birth. I became a midwife to protect the sanctity and safety of childbirth.
Respectful, loving and skilled support are at the center of my practice. A partnership between myself and my clients develops that is personalized and collaborative. I provide timely information about testing and treatment options and offer advice and guidance while honoring that each family is the primary decision maker in their own care.
People choose homebirth because:
Birth is a normal body processes - not an illness
It's easier to open and relax in the comfort and familiarity of your own private home environment
You are surrounded by those you want at your birth.
There is continuity of care with a trusted midwife who you get to know during prenatal visits and who attends your labor and birth and provides postpartum and newborn care.
You are not "on the clock"
You move, eat, drink as you desire
You are free to birth instinctively by listening and responding to your body's impulses
It matters how we give birth. It matters how we are born.
With a thorough, in depth understanding of the physiology of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum time, I offer appropriate, skilled and timely response to thrive and reduce risk.
I work with those who intuitively understand that birth demands all the strength and all the surrender they possess; those who trust and who long to trust in their ability to meet and be equal to the intensity, mystery and extreme beauty of their experience; those who want to birth their baby at home.
You are never separated from your baby
There are no routine, interventions, monitoring or checks
Many complications of childbirth are due to medical interventions. With fewer interventions there are fewer opportunities for complications to be created
The risk of having a cesarean birth decreases
The risk of infection decreases
Visits take place in your home or at my office - you choose. We talk about you and your baby's well-being and support you both to be healthy. All your questions are addressed and we talk about your birth and the postpartum time. We discuss nutrition as well as the standard screening & testing options that are available. I provide you with resources for things like: Childbirth education, Yoga classes, Acupuncture, Chiropractic care, Herbs, Homeopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, Massage, Counseling & Psychotherapy, Groups for LGBTQ and alternative families, single and choice parents, mothers and fathers, Sibling preparation, Pediatrician options and Vaccination considerations.
You are invited to all activities hosted by the Bay Area Homebirth Collective: http://bayareahomebirth.org
Many consider this part of care the most unexpected and nurturing! For six weeks I come to your home (often your bedside) to support, both you and your baby, with healing, thriving, bonding, nursing and integrating this big life transition.
Throughout our entire relationship, you can be assured you will always reach me directly, by phone, email or text
During labor and birth I safeguard you and your baby's wellbeing as you take the time you need to birth your baby. In early labor we stay in close contact. By active labor I arrive to your home and remain with you through your birth. A second midwife arrives closer to the time your baby is born. After your birth, there is often a sense of timelessness as you and your baby are skin to skin getting to know each other. Several hours later we leave; after your baby has nursed and been weighed, you have eaten, your home is cleaned up and you are all tucked in bed ready for sleep.

I have been involved with childbirth for over 23 years, beginning with the homebirth of my gorgeous daughter. My first Midwifery teachers were my own beloved Midwives. They gave me an unshakable foundation of trust in the ability and wisdom of our wild-nature bodies to grow and birth babies. I went on to create a low-income community prenatal clinic, teach childbirth empowerment and attend births. This naturally developed into formal midwifery training in birth centers and with homebirth midwives in Canada and the U.S. I graduated from the National Midwifery Institute and have attended over 600 births.
I’m dedicated, in quiet and noisy ways to understanding power, privilege, and oppression, both internal and institutional, and to speaking out against and standing up to white supremacy. I’m committed to protecting and nurturing that which is beautiful in life, so that each and every one of us gets to experience health, joy and liberation.
I acknowledge that, here in the East Bay, I am a settler on the ancestral homeland of Muwekma Ohlone people. I am grateful to discover and want to share with you one practical way to begin to recognize this:
The Sogorea Te Land Trust is an urban Indigenous women-led community organization that facilitates the return of Chochenyo and Karkin Ohlone lands in the San Francisco Bay Area to Indigenous stewardship. Sogorea Te creates opportunities for all people living in Ohlone territory to work together to re-envision the Bay Area community and what it means to live on Ohlone land. Guided by the belief that land is the foundation that can bring us together, Sogorea Te calls on us all to heal from the legacies of colonialism and genocide, to remember different ways of living, and to do the work that our ancestors and future generations are calling us to do. http://sogoreate-landtrust.com
I look forward to hearing from you!
